In today’s rapidly changing world, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is more important than ever. Pupils need to have the skills and confidence to use ICT well, to learn about a range of software and hardware, to make effective use of the internet, and to become familiar with
a range of communication technologies.
During the foundation stage, pupils find out about everyday technology and use ICT to support their learning.
During Key Stages 1 and 2, pupils increasingly explore ICT and learn to use it with greater confidence and purpose. The range of ICT tools and information sources becomes more extensive, and pupils expand their research skills. They begin to question the plausibility and quality of information, learn how to amend and develop their work and present it creatively to suit a specific audience.
During Key Stage 3 pupils become increasingly independent users of ICT tools and information sources. They develop their ability to judge “when, when not and how” to use ICT. They access and combine increasing amounts of information and think about quality and reliability. They become efficient in their use of ICT, and carry out a range of increasingly complex tasks.
